Custom Kart Build

This is not related to our software, but I would like to share details of the Custom Kart we built in the past.

We started out with this cheaply made Chinese off road Go Kart.

The original engine was so unreliable and under powered, we decided to change to a V-Twin OHV 674cc 26HP water cooled Kohler engine. One change led to another and we ended up with our version of a road racing kart.

The Kohler engine with a custom made air intake.

Added gauges to monitor engine temp, oil pressure and battery.

And added a digital tach/speedometer.

The engine powered the variable belt drive through a floating jack shaft with industrial timing belt & pulleys. The pulleys could be changed with different teeth count for different drive ratios.

We used a Toyota 4X4 IFS differential with the spider gears welded together for the rear end. It's a 4:10 ratio.

The original brake calipers and rotors were fairly good quality, so we decided to use them.

But the original brake master cylinder was substandard, so we used a Mopar car master cylinder instead.

We changed out the original shocks with Air adjustable ones and we used a lawn tractor battery to power it.

We later decided to change it back to an off road Kart, so we mounted mud rims & tires on it.
