I have just finished changing my X and Y linear bearings and am excited about how much better things are running. I am going to re-build my Z axis because raising and lowering the table can not go fast enough to run PL 3D successfully. I plan on running the stepper motor with a timing belt to the lead screw as vertical space is limited. My question is: What would be a good ratio between the stepper motor and the lead screw? There are many different designs and ratios of DIY Z Axis on the internet. Right now it is an option as all the parts are just a big pile of bearings, belts, sprockets and motors on my work bench. I notice on Jeff's' pictures that he has machines with both geared and direct 1:1 ratios to the lead screw.
