GT2 Belts on X-Carve for Laser Engraving

Postby ecouwoo » Fri Feb 10, 2017 1:02 am

Hi Jeff and John,
I remember in your instructable on the Shapeoko2 laser engraving...you changed the Shapeoko''s stock GT2 belt pulley to another with smaller pitch. You also changed the stock Belts too to one of smaller pitch.
My observation with X-Carve is the stock Pulley is irremovable. In that scenario how does the laser engraving with the X-Carve achieve those fine laser step overs when the stock GT2 pulley and belts are used?

Actually the GT2 belt pitch is almost the same as the MXL. The GT2 belt is 2mm (0.07874") and the MXL belt is .08". The reason I went with a 15 tooth pulley is because I have nema 17 steppers on our Shapeoko 2 and wanted more torque for the acceleration/deceleration. The Kevlar belts gives me less stretching and more strength too. I assume you have nema 23 steppers on your X-Carve, so I would not worry that. You should not notice much difference when laser engraving photos with the ratios you have. It may be an improvement if you can find Kevlar reinforced GT2 belts for your X-Carve though.

Thank you ,great guys for the clarification. I bought Kevlar reinforced GT2 belts in advance. Hence I'm feeling good.

Courage,

Where did you find the Kevlar reinforced GT2 belts? Can you post a link to help others that want to upgrade?

Thanks.
Jeff
