Thank you very much Jeff,

I may start making a single laser system first (to expose graded B&w only) and wire up the dac but I will wait for the J-tech board until I put the rest of the lasers in, how long would you say before they are up?

Months, weeks, days? ;)

I don't want to estimate a time frame with something we have no control over. You could contact them and ask.

We will have a better idea when they ship us one to test which should be in the next week or two. ;)

OK I have the information I need, good luck with testing RevC, hopefully it will be out soon I can afford to wait anyway.

Just a question for shapeoko2 mod owners, what is the closest and farthest position you can locate the laser on the z-axis?
I am trying to achieve the smallest dot size possible.

Cheers

It depends where you mount the laser to the spindle mounting bracket. We have ours at a 2" focal distance from the table on our new 6W build. 3" on our previous two 2.8W builds.

That is true, I didn't realise you had it set that close. For this set up it may have to be set further back to avoid fogging the paper from the stray light produced by 3 lasers/dichroic mirrors.

A member on laser-point has suggested the use of the BlitzLinear driver instead of the P3 (smaller and less costly)

Since I will only be needing <100mW lasers optically rather than engraving with higher powered lasers, could I actually use this? Just swap the P3 out with this, probably could fit it in the laser module.

I don't see how you can modulate that driver to vary the intensity on-the-fly.

I don't see either, unfortunately I am being misunderstood and misdirected on other forums in regards to the project since they are more geared towards a certain type of context.

I also cannot seem to register on photonlexicon either :(

Here is another driver to consider. One of our distributors uses them on there laser engraver. They look easier to wire with the plugs and all.

Thanks might use this for my single laser set up. Is that still able to drive/modulate a diode that has <100mA working current?

This one states it has analog modulation.
